Alaska Cruise Book

After our trip to Alaska, I sat down with my sister-in-laws to create a book about our travels. They did most of the work and I chimed in from time to time.

Here is their awesome creation. Just click on the arrows to turn the pages. Most of this trip has already been documented on my blog, but the book is just so much better that what I did!

I can't wait to get my copy soon!

Crafty Week

On Monday, my crafty friend Liz and I had a Girls Night Out. She took me to JoAnn's Fabrics to help me learn how to shop at the fabric store. I would've been there for several more hours if she hadn't come... too much pretty fabric and way too much to try and figure out.

After we had a delicious dinner at Pizza My Heart, we went back to her house and she helped me figure out a project I've been wanting to do with the girls at church. One of my counselor's discovered it and we thought it might be fun to try.

I found good instructions online that Liz assured me were easy. She helped me (really just did it for me) create a sample one and let me use some of her tools to prep the material for my activity.

We did the project tonight with the YW and it was a big success. The girls sewed holders for some of the books they use as part of Young Womens. They actually liked the material I chose (yay!)... or at least didn't appear to hate it.

I invited several women to come help us that actually know how to use sewing machines. They were fabulous and helped all of the girls complete the project in the 1hr 1/2 time frame we had for our activity.

I "supervised" and was actually useful one or two times when I remembered what Liz had showed me.

Now, hopefully, they won't lose their books so much.

My next craft project for this week will be attempted on Friday night at our first YW sleepover at my duplex. We are going to make these cute blocks to remind the girls to pray, read their scriptures, and smile every day... as well as "Be examples of the believers..."

I am excited! I love being creative (or watching other people be creative :)) Wish us luck!

Toothpaste Thief

Last night after I scrubbed and scrubbed all the sand off of Andrew man, I let him run around the house while I worked on dinner. He was surprisingly quiet and focused. Then I discovered this in his room.

I'm... too sexy for my toothpaste

He'd gone through Kevin's drawers and pulled out the toothbrush and toothpaste... his favorite things to use in the mornings with his daddy.

I laughed, took some pictures of him being goofy and dancing around to music while brushing his teeth...

Then I asked him to put daddy's things back in the bathroom. He went right back into the bathroom, put them in Kevin's drawer, and closed the drawer. Such an obedient kid!

A Day at the Beach

I have been wanting to go the beach all summer. Unfortunately, we have been gone so much that we haven't made it yet. I was determined to go this week, but didn't want to go by myself. A few of my little friends from church came with me. I felt like I had four mother's helpers. They were fabulous.

The weather was gorgeous- not a cloud in the sky. A perfect day for a trip to the beach.

The little man just squealed when he saw the ocean and couldn't be stopped.

I tried to snap pictures. His face was covered with very orange cheetos that the girls fed him in the car...

The little guy ran towards the waves and once he touched the freezing water and heard the screams from the girls, he ran away from the water and screamed and cried too... but then he had to do it again and again and again.

When he cried, he had to be held (which got me soaked)... then he'd fight me to put him back down. As he got used to the freezing water, he ran faster and faster towards the water and stayed in it longer and longer.

After awhile I had to start picking him up because the waves got higher and higher and the undertow was stronger and stronger. He loved it. He is definitely a California boy.

He also did some digging and building with the girls.

He fell in the waves several times too, so by the end of our time at the beach, his entire body was caked in sand.

He loved having four little buddies to entertain him.

After the fun at the beach, we went and did a few rides at the Boardwalk. Little man got to experience what it would be like to have four older siblings and not get to have his way. He was tired, he didn't want to wait any longer while the girls went on rides, and he just got to deal because we were all having fun. I was really impressed how well he handled himself. He was actually pleasant and got himself out of his bad mood.

Climbing on fences always helps too.

Little man loved watching the girls on the rides from his chariot covered with towels and bags.

It wouldn't be a trip to Santa Cruz without a stop at Marianne's for ice cream. Andrew kept trying to steal mine and got himself nice and chocolaty from his few little bites.

Fortunately for all of us, the second we started driving the little man fell fast asleep and the drive home was traffic free.

I already want to go back again!

Madeline's Blessing

On Sunday, Elise and Dan blessed baby Madeline... so we did a quick 24 (or so) hour trip to Utah. We arrived Saturday evening and Kevin flew back Sunday night, and we flew back this morning.

The blessing was beautiful and so was Madeline! I loved her darling dress! Andrew and I mostly just listened to the baby blessing through the speakers because he was acting too crazy to even be able to stay in the chapel. At one point he ran down the aisle towards the front of the chapel right when the Bishop started talking... and I had to run after him. Talk about embarrassing! Then I let him run around outside to get his energy out and he ended up finding a wasp nest... and got stung four times! Poor little boy! Fortunately he is very tough and not allergic to wasps... so I think he recovered quicker than I did.

After the blessing, Elise and Dan invited all of us over for a big BBQ. The food was delicious and it was nice to spend some time with the Caffee family who flew in from Maryland and several of Elise and Dan's friends who came from L.A.

Here's the "Smith" clan...

We got a quick family photo as well. It was nice and hot and sunny!

Jessie and Cat both helped keep Andrew happy.

Aunt Jessie was a hit at the BBQ and all the kids wanted to play with her... she is so fun!

Andrew loved his special time with her on our drive home. She does great voices and sounds when she reads.

We were so glad to go and spend such a wonderful weekend with our family and celebrate this special day with Madeline!

Date Night @ AT&T Park

On Friday afternoon we scored some Giants tickets from a friend. We called up one of our usual babysitters and got excited for a night out at AT&T Park. We haven't been to a game in the past two years... so we were excited to finally be heading back to the ball park.

The weather is significantly cooler in the city, so we bundled up and grabbed some of our favorite snacks. I love that they have Ghirardelli hot cocoa available to purchase. Mmmm!

As the game went on, the fog rolled in even more and made the whole field look hazy. It was beautiful. We had great seats where it was nice and warm, despite the chilly weather.

We had such a fun time, despite the horrible loss by the Giants. What a fabulous date night!
