Andrew's First Field Trip

Yesterday Andrew went on his first elementary school field trip. We went down to the Fitzgerald Marine Preserve in Moss Beach down by Half Moon Bay. The weather was incredible.

Here's D (one of my students), keeping Andrew happy and trying to implement some sleep techniques he was reading about ;-) Mostly his strategies involved saying" don't go to sleep again, stay awake, stay awake..." which Andrew ignored... maybe I should start trying that at nighttime?

Here's Andrew after he got his diaper changed by the beach. Such a happy kid!

We briefly visited Venice beach, but is was surprisingly sunny for Half Moon Bay, so we headed back to meet up with the kids at the tide pools.

Here's Andrew bracing himself for some more time with the crazy 2nd and 3rd graders. They LOVED him and he loved smiling at them and copying them when they'd stick their tongues out at him.

Yvette, Andrew and I hiked up to this ridge overlooking the water and just admired the beautiful scenery. Then Andrew and I hiked down some pretty steep cliff areas (he was hanging out and sleeping in the Baby Bjorn) to join the 3rd graders by the tide pools. If you look close enough in the pictures you might even see some harbor seals.

It was the perfect day!

Weekend Fun

Last weekend we went to the last San Jose Stealth lacrosse game of the season. The Stealth beat the Colorado Mammoth and secured the Western Division title. It was an awesome game! This Sunday they'll play the Portland Lumberjax in the first round of the playoffs. Andrew enjoyed the game from his snoozing position in Christie's arms. He woke up at the end when the Stealth won and everyone was cheering.

Saturday afternoon we were just lazy and then I went running and we just did some stuff around our condo. On Sunday morning we gave Andrew a bath. This is one of our favorite activities because he LOVES the water. I'm checking into baby swim classes for the summer, so if anyone knows of any good ones close by, let me know.

Here he is lounging in his bathrobe after the bath. He actually didn't cry/scream after we got him out of the bath this time, so that was nice. I must be getting better at getting him warm and dry faster now.

After his bath, he "helped" me make chocolate chip cookies. The sound of the cuisinart must be soothing since he ended up almost taking a three hour morning nap while hanging out in the kitchen.

After that we headed to church. Andrew wore cute white overalls. We were impressed that he made it through church without a major explosion. Instead, he graciously waited until we arrived at the Daines' new home for dinner and then he destroyed his little outfit :-)

Our dinner with them was one of the highlights of our weekend. We loved getting a tour of their beautiful new home and eating delicious food. Kevin was especially excited about the new addition to their loft's entertainment- Rock Band!

It was a great weekend!

Happy 2 Months!

Time flies when you're having fun... and we're having a blast with Andrew! Today we celebrated his two month birthday. I can't believe it has already been 2 months!! He was so excited about the celebration that he barely slept a wink last night and decided to get up nice and early to hang out with his mom. ;-)

We started out the day with a trip to our pediatrician for his 2 month check-up. Our predictions that he had gained a good amount of weight since his last visit were validated when we were told he now weighs 12.3 lbs (he weighed 8.1 lbs at his 2 week visit). He's quite a big kid now! He thought the scale was the coolest part of the visit and smiled and talked at it while we waited for the doctor.

They also measured his head circumference and his length. He is now 23 1/2 inches long... quite a different kid than the one pictured on our baby announcement that was sent off this week!

After we talked with the doctor we waited for the nurse to come back and give Andrew his birthday present- SHOTS! 3 of them.

(the calm before the storm)

Andrew wasn't a big fan of his present and screamed and cried for a little bit. After some cuddling with mom and dad he calmed down though and went to sleep in his car seat.

The next part of the celebration included a trip to Google for lunch. We tried out two different cafes. We ate "real food" at the first one and then we headed to a different cafe because they were serving chocolate molten cakes for dessert (I obviously married the perfect person for me... since I wasn't the one that came up with the idea to go get the molten cakes after an insanely large lunch). I think I would be enormous if I worked at Google and had food that good every day.

After lunch, Andrew and I headed up to Palo Alto to hike the Stanford dish loop with my friend Marie. We hiked it yesterday with my old roommate Sarah... and Andrew decided to go to the bathroom right when we reached the halfway mark- all over me, himself, and the Baby Bjorn! Here's the cutie yesterday at the end of our hike after he wet through both of our outfits.

I was hopeful that we wouldn't have a repeat bathroom performance today. Instead he just slept and slept! Once we got home he kept sleeping...

Then he decided to finally wake up... which was sad because then he realized that the shots actually hurt and he screamed and screamed. Miraculously after an hour of screaming I discovered that I was actually more prepared than I had expected and I found some Infant Tylenol in the bathroom. After some of the cherry tasting goodness, Andrew started to calm down, ate some dinner, and finally drifted off to sleep!

What a fun little guy! My favorite things about Andrew right now are the cute sounds he makes and his darling faces and smiles. He is such a smiley guy! His favorite things to smile at are the pictures on the wall behind the couch, the toucan doll that hangs from his swing, and the light above his changing pad... and of course, his parents!

(smiling at his toucan)

He is such a content little kid and loves to just chill and watch people. The other night he just sat in his little chair while I did a kickboxing video and smiled and stared at me and followed me with his eyes around the room.

He also loves hanging out on his tummy, rolling over when he can get himself positioned right, playing with his toys (especially his mirror), and watching me when I make goofy faces at him.

It has been a great two months!

Date Night

Kevin's mom came up to Santa Clara last night and babysat Andrew for us so that we could have a night out. It was a lot of fun! We went and watched the San Jose Stealth professional indoor lacrosse team play against the Portland Lumberjax down at the HP Pavillion. We went with two other couples (Bruce & Christie and Clark & Emily) and had a great time.

My favorite part of the night was watching this crazy guy, Cameron Hughes, who is hired to rev up the crowd...

and avoiding looking at the Spy Girls cheerleaders. You know there is something wrong with the cheerleaders when even the guys are covering their eyes. The game was awesome though. It went into overtime, but unfortunately the Stealth lost :( Hopefully they play better when we go next week!

We are so grateful to Shari for babysitting for us. We are going to miss her when she moves to Utah at the beginning of June! We are so grateful she was able to sell her house so quickly though!

Super Grandpa!

My dad decided to fly into town this weekend to come hang out with Andrew (and Kevin and I). We had a blast! Andrew loved spending time with his grandpa!

Andrew also liked showing off his strong neck muscles and playing with his grandpa during tummy time.

Andrew also loved having grandpa feed him a bottle! He demonstrated his appreciation through huge burps. :-)

(Andrew- exhausted from all of the fun!)

Kevin and I even got to have our first date night out and Grandpa was a super babysitter! He and Andrew played together, went on a walk, and had a delicious dinner. We already can't wait for him to visit again :-) What a super grandpa!

Andrew's Buddies

This week Andrew got to meet some of his new friends.

First, he met his "cousin" Olivia. She was born on March 18th and is super tiny (compared to Andrew, of course!). They both mostly slept during their first "playdate" together or wanted to EAT!

Second, he met his new friend Max. Max was born on Friday, February 22nd (just 3 days before Andrew). They had fun today showing off their muscles and squirming around on the floor. He is looking forward to meeting his other buddy Max (with reddish hair just like him) sometime this month.

Andrew also got to meet his cousin Kate a week ago. She taught him some really cool growling sounds.
.

He is also hoping to meet his newest buddy, Baby Boy Balena, sometime soon!

More Pictures

We started a new Picassa album for Andrew. Here are some more pictures of him. I love taking pictures of all his funny faces.

Andrew

Here's a link to the old album. It is crazy to see how much he's grown in just the past 6 weeks!

Adventures with the Little Man

This week was our first week flying solo and Andrew and I had a blast together! Here are some of the things we've been up to this week.

1) Playing Guitar Hero with dad for FHE

2) Checking out the lights in the bathroom- pretty exciting!

3) Staring at the pictures frames on the wall (almost as neat as the bathroom lights!)

4) Doing the dishes, making the bed, and taking naps (Kevin's pretty excited that the dishes are getting done and the bed is finally getting made!)

5) Practicing rolling over

6) Smiling and having fun playing with his mobile

7) Looking at himself in the mirror and lifting himself up

8) Falling over... and smiling! What a happy kid!

9) Going jogging together in our new stroller

10) Hanging out with friends at Park Day

11) Roaming around Whole Foods

12) Visiting the kids and teachers at Escondido Elementary! Andrew had fun showing off his gas producing skills when he was introduced to the little people. (I loved getting to see how much my students have grown! They also wrote me cute letters asking questions about Andrew. I can't wait to write them back!)

(Here's Andrew all decked out in his little man clothes to head to Escondido. Surprisingly, he almost made it through the entire day with his outfit still intact and no explosions)

The week went by WAY too fast and Andrew is growing even faster!! I miss my little tiny guy, but love my little man! Now we're excited for a relaxing weekend of watching General Conference and hanging out with Kevin. We missed him this week!
