Deck the Halls

We are spending the week getting decorated and into the holiday spirit...

These are a few favorite new additions this year:

Little man loves this nativity... esp the sheep

Some new Spode accents to go with my collection (Thanks Shari!)

some festive new holiday table decor (Thanks Elise!)

Lollipop tree (Andrew thinks it is awesome)... We got this last year, but never decorated for Christmas, so it is making it's debut. Thanks Liesl!

Andrew's stocking is new and he gets Santa's Workshop as his little house. He loves the carrot nose and surprisingly has only pulled these down once so far (notice the crooked tree).

On Monday we went to hack down a tree (or really watch someone else knock it down and drag it away).
I'm looking stylin in my running clothes and Andrew was being a total goofball

Such handsome guys!

I love how they are standing like each other and just are both entranced in the cutting of the tree

Andrew liked saying hi to Santa. He also called all of the kids at the tree place "Santa." The big kids just shook their heads and said, "He doesn't know Santa yet, does he?"

We have also been loving our advent calendar. Andrew is OBSESSED (to put it mildly). He spends a good part of the day opening and closing all the drawers and pulling things out. He has a hard time being patient and after we put up our new object each day he will pull me back in the room and say "come!" "again!" "more train!"

We finally got some lights on our tree yesterday. Several of our strands are broken, so we need to buy more... but everywhere is out of the type I want.

You can tell what he wants to do

I am working hard to not get overly busy this Christmas season and just enjoy the little things. I love this website our church put together that has some great ideas for families on how to find Christ in Christmas. I love the coloring pages and games.

One of my favorite quotes this week is from President Monson: “Finding the real joy of the season comes not in the hurrying and the scurrying to get more done or in the purchasing of obligatory gifts,... Real joy comes as we show the love and compassion inspired by the Savior of the world, who said, ‘Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these, ye have done it unto me.’”

It actually really helps to be in a new place and not really know anyone around Christmastime. The invitations to events are fewer and I have more time to ponder. It is nice not to hurry and scurry so much.

What a beautiful time of year this is!

I've been wanting to get that nativity for Olive. Where did you get your advent calendar?
