Monday's Adventure

I have been wanting to try out some new runs... and visit some new parks- today we decided to do both. I should have checked the weather report before planning it... but that isn't something I usually remember to do.

We headed to a new park (Hap Magee Ranch Park) in Alamo. It was darling, but the weather was freezing and drizzly. We met up with Izzie & Sarah at the park, played for a bit, and then headed off running on the Ironhorse Trail to Osage Station Park (3.5 miles away).

Izzie & Andrew ate snacks and were pretty content in their strollers for about the first 3 miles. Then I got us a little lost and they started throwing shoes. We finally made it to the park. About 15-20 minutes later it started raining. We held out for awhile and kept playing... and then bribed the kids back in the strollers and listened to them scream (mostly just Andrew) for about a 1/2 mile.

We took a rain break on our way back and stopped at Amici's for some pizza and noodles. Andrew had his first meatball. Considering he is obsessed with the "On top of spaghetti" song right now and sleeps with his basketball ("meatball"), I thought it was fitting that he try one. He wouldn't eat it, but he was really excited about it.

The kids were pretty entertaining at lunch (throwing crayons, visiting other tables, etc). As we ate, the rain came down harder and harder.

After we couldn't hang out much longer, we attempted the trek back to our cars (about 3 miles away at Hap Magee Park). The rain fortunately let up and eventually both of the little guys were bribed with lollipops to sit in their strollers. We quickly ran a good chunk of the way back to Hap Magee Park (mostly because it was already past 1pm, we'd started our adventure at 9:30am... and I needed to leave to get to a work mtg in Palo Alto before 2pm).

Overall despite a few squawks from the little guys, we had a great time and got an awesome workout (almost 7 miles of running)! We are both running The Giant Race in SF next month, so we considered this adequate training for Plate to Plate 5K. ;) Especially since we won't be pushing toddlers during our race.

Andrew and I blew all the calories we burned later in the day when we had dinner (and big IT'S-IT ice cream sandwiches) with these cuties at Google.

I think we'll have another great night of sleep tonight! I am EXHAUSTED!

I'm glad the kids were good!!! Next time you sign up for a race I want in on the action! I need some incentive. I want to do a half marathon :-)
