I love to make and decorate sugar cookies every year in spite of the mess it makes! Last year we had a bunch of kids over... this year it was a little more low key with Kevin, Andrew, and Grandma Shari working with us.
We are low maintenance cookie bakers when it comes to sugar cookies- we always use pillsbury ready-made dough. I am always disappointed though because the dough doesn't hold the shape... so this year we used a Krusteaz box mix and it was a bit better. Kevin, Andrew, and Shari both said the raw dough was actually pretty good too. After watching Andrew mix the dough with his hands... I had no appetite to actually try any of it :)
It is amazing what a difference a year makes in terms of cookie cutting skills. This year Andrew could cut the dough using shapes totally independently and only needed a little help to pick up his cut cookies and put them on the pans.
He was definitely a sneaky baker though... and tried to eat the raw cookies before they could reach the pan.
Little man played golf while the cookies cooled...
and right before he went to bed we were surprised when a group of friends stopped by to carol at our house and bring us cookies. Andrew was so excited he kept saying, "Great job!" "Thank you!" and "Merry Christmas!"
The cookies weren't cooled before bed, so we decided to frost them the next day.
Andrew and I watched a movie about the nativity right before bed and talked about Jesus' birth. He was so concerned that the innkeepers wouldn't let Mary and Joseph in and kept telling them there was "no room!" When I told him Jesus was born in a stable, he said, "A stable? No way!"
Kevin got some cuddle time in with Caitlin while we ate some other yummy treats brought over from some other friends.
This morning Kevin went under the house to finish some projects.
Andrew and I used that time to frost some cookies. In this picture it was almost noon and we were all still in p.j.s! I had napped from 9-11am since Miss C was up more than usual last night. Gotta love vacation!
Little dude is giving his sneaky smile here since he kept trying to eat the cookies before we finished frosting them.
We added sprinkles...
and had a little disaster when I looked away for a sec to pick up crying Caitlin... Good thing the little dude loves sprinkles!... and good thing he kept them all on his plate!
Next stop for him was the bathtub!!
PS- Yesterday Caitlin was three weeks old! We marked the occasion by spending the day Christmas shopping together- just girls.
I attempted to weigh her and she is now over 9lbs. She is also visually tracking objects when I hold them in front of her (and move them around) and she makes eye contact and focuses on faces. Big milestones in my opinion! She also responds to noises and is more distracted by her crazy brother now. She celebrated her three week birthday by letting me sleep almost 5.5 hours straight on Tuesday night. I am excited for when that happens again, although since she usually just eats and goes back to sleep at night (she isn't the all night party-er like Andrew was), I surprisingly don't feel underslept and exhausted yet. I'm sure that will come in January. Kevin is the one feeling underslept these days since Andrew likes to wake up at 7am (or before). He is very excited Shari is in town and plays with Andrew in the morning so that he can get some extra shut eye!
