When Jessie stopped by on Thursday she mentioned that the BYU Mens Volleyball team was playing at Stanford this weekend. Just the word "volleyball" got Andrew really excited (he is loving beach volleyball on the Kinect right now). I was a HUGE mens volleyball fan when I was a student at BYU (mostly bc some of the players were really cute), so we cleared our Friday night schedule (since it was chock full of tv watching :)) and decided to head down to Palo Alto.
Before we got in the car to drive down, I had little man get out some of his energy. The best part of living on a cul-de-sac is that I can watch Andrew ride around without having to follow him.
Our first stop of the evening was some play time at Google. Next we met up with Jessie at Cafe Barrone in Menlo Park for some killer hot chocolate and chocolate lava cake (me & Kevin's dinner)...
So heavenly!!
and little man had a smiley face muenster grilled cheese sandwich (and all the leftover cake and ice cream). Yum!
Caitlin slept through the all the fun... even Andrew's screaming with excitement about going to see VOLLEYBALL!
Little dude was SOOOO HAPPY to see Aunt Jessie (one of his absolute favorite people on the PLANET)... can't you tell by that adorable smile? We are so glad she lives close by!
After dinner, we headed over to Maples Pavilion at Stanford for the free volleyball game. Guess matches against BYU aren't that popular? As always, the game proved to be entertaining just by looking around at the costumes the Stanford super fans were wearing. Stanford is the defending National Champion and BYU is ranked #2 this year, so the game was really close.
Andrew was so excited for about the first 45 minutes that you couldn't get his attention. He just cheered and jumped around. Later on in the game he got a little restless, but still had a lot of fun. Our buddies the Balenas also joined us for the game... so I had fun catching up with Liz (since Andrew was mostly distracted and Caitlin was fast asleep).
This was how we all felt though when we found out BYU lost! :(
Our drive home around 9pm wasn't too bad... especially once the tickle monster came alive and started tickling Andrew. We were happily ready to get right to sleep when somehow Andrew managed to close the car door on his finger. I can still hear the screaming. I ran him into the house and we got him some Tylenol quickly and I just hugged and hugged him and my whole body couldn't stop shaking. Kevin & I were both so sad to see him so sad and hurt. Once we got him distracted with his favorite Richard Scarry book he calmed down (since he wasn't that hurt) and went straight to sleep.
Definitely not the way I wanted to end Fun Friday!
Overall the night was great though and so fun to hang out with friends and run into other friends at the game!
If you're bored tonight, BYU is playing at Stanford again (at 7:30pm)... and hopefully they'll win this time! Unfortunately we won't be making the trek down again this weekend!
